Malaysia’s Renewable Energy Sector Gears Up with LSS6 Solar Tenders and CRESS

Malaysia’s renewable energy market is expected to accelerate in early 2026, spurred by increasing power demand from data centres and government initiatives. The sixth round of the Large Scale Solar (LSS6) programme is anticipated to open for bids, potentially creating RM6 billion in construction jobs and adding up to 2 GW of solar capacity, with battery storage requirements and strong internal rates of return for developers. The Corporate Renewable Energy Supply Scheme (CRESS), launched in 2024, now has 1.3 GW of committed capacity and enables major energy users to purchase green power directly from renewable developers. Additionally, greater policy clarity around the Solar Accelerated Transition Action Programme (Solar ATAP), which opens for applications on January 1, 2026, is expected to further boost solar adoption across Malaysia.
