On September 25, 2025, the United Nations released the fourth edition of the Energy Compacts Annual Progress Report, revealing that global commitments for clean energy and access initiatives have reached $1.6 trillion, with $284 billion already mobilized since 2021. Most of the funds deployed to date have come from private sector investments in renewable power generation, contributing to electricity access for 285 million people and clean cooking solutions for 33 million. However, the report stresses that over $4 trillion in annual investment is needed to achieve universal energy access, scale clean cooking, and align with the Paris Agreement’s net-zero trajectory by 2050.
Despite notable progress, particularly in electricity access and renewable deployment, the pace remains insufficient. The Energy Compacts initiative has registered 209 commitments since its 2021 launch, including government spending, private sector pledges, and community-driven projects such as solar-powered centres in Guatemala and clean energy tracking in Japan. UN-Energy leaders emphasized that current choices will shape prosperity, security, and climate stability for future generations, urging broader participation in Energy Compact commitments to accelerate the global energy transition.
